The MLRO will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining an effective AML/CTF framework to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and best practices as well as overseeing all AML and CTF activities.
You will work closely with various departments within the bank, including Compliance, Risk, and Legal, to develop and enforce policies and procedures relating to AML/CTF. Additionally, you will be responsible for training employees on AML/CTF requirements and conducting regular internal audits to assess our organization's AML/CTF controls.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a deep understanding of AML/CTF regulations and industry best practices, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. A high level of integrity and discretion is crucial for success in this role, as you will be handling sensitive and confidential information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement robust AML/CTF policies and procedures in line with regulatory guidelines
- Conduct regular reviews of the bank's existing AML/CTF programs and identify areas for improvement
- Oversee the investigation and reporting of suspicious transactions, ensuring timely submission of suspicious activity reports (SARs) to the relevant authorities.
- Conduct regular internal audits to assess the effectiveness of our AML/CTF controls.
- Conducting investigations and reporting any suspicious activities to regulatory bodies
- Oversight of business continuity projects supporting the financial crime operations team
- Staying up to date with current regulatory requirements and industry best practices to ensure the implementation of effective risk management strategies
- Subject matter expert in and management of AML, ABC, CTF, SAR reporting and FATF, providing expertise on high-risk cases
- Collaborating with internal departments to develop and enhance internal controls and processes related to AML/CFT compliance
- Establish strong relationships with external stakeholders, such as regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies, to facilitate information sharing and cooperation
- Provide guidance and training to staff on AML/CTF compliance, ensuring awareness and adherence to policies and regulations
Ideal Candidate:
- Proven experience in an MLRO or a similar role within the banking industry
- Strong Knowledge of UAE AML laws and regulations.
- Excellent understanding of risk management principles and practices in the financial sector
- Exceptional leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively guide and mentor a team
- Analytical mindset and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with all levels of the organization
- Professional certifications such as ACAMS or similar are highly desirable
